The past few days have been extremely difficult to endure. For many caught in the grip of the worst bush fires our nation has ever seen, the nightmare continues. Countless are now homeless and hundreds now have to deal with the lose of a loved one or sadly for some, many loved ones. The severity of these fires has left everyone speechless as complete towns have now been wiped out. As of today there are still about 20 fires out of control and the death toll rises. Currently those that have perished in these fires is 181 people. Mind-blowing to think of the magnitude of such a tragedy.
I had to drive through one of the effected areas yesterday for work and as I drove into the area where all of the nature around me was black, tears welled up in my eyes as I saw some homes burnt to the ground and others standing tall. I tried to picture the urgency that the locals felt when suddenly their entire existence was changed and life would not be the same again. I could not believe my eyes as I saw large hills once covered in lush green trees now stripped bare as all that remained were naked trunks. It really did look like a war-zone as sign of life was scarce. Nothing could prepare anyone to see the horrors of this devastation.
As Australia gathers togther to help the suffering I am greatly encouraged by the money raised and the thousands of people reaching out any way they can. Should you want to make a donation to the Victorian Bush Fire Appeal, please visit www.redcross.org.au
Please also pray for those now left to pick up the pieces and those who are serving them. The danger is not over yet so we pray for protection from any further disaster. We live in a world where tragedy will always be around but I am always encouraged that we have a God who is loving and compassionate and understands the hurt of His people. He is a God who sees this and is grieved by it. He is there with each person and to those willing to reach out He gives them abounding love and comfort. He truly is our ever-present help in times of need.
Lord Jesus, be with the hurting now and reveal a love that can heal the pain and give hope for yet another day. Love them through others and may we all turn to You for enduring comfort in these times of distress. Thank You for your faithfulness and neverending grace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

So here I am sitting in my home office on Saturday night thinking , praying, preparing about what tomorrow will hold. Excitement building within me for an awesome church gathering as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus and the life He has given us. My excitement seems to be growing as the move of God amongst us is obvious and He is up to something remarkable.
